How to Present the Montessori Color Tablets?

Materials

  • Box1: Six tablets in total, with a pair of each primary color: red, yellow, and blue. These colors offer the sharpest contrast.

The following instructions are the basic presentation of Color Tablet: Box 1 activity:

Presentation

  1. Begin by taking out the red, yellow, and blue tablets, carefully using both hands to show that we're not touching the colored parts.
  2. Scatter each tablet next to the box on the table, making a little splash of color.
  3. Now, move the box to the side, tucking it behind its lid to clear our workspace.
  4. Let’s start with red. Pick up a red tablet by its frame with your thumb and index finger, placing it near the top of the table, standing out on its own.
  5. Look at the child and say with a smile, "I’m on a hunt for its twin."
  6. When you spot the matching red, place it gently right beside the first, like two peas in a pod.
  7. Moving on to sunny yellow, place a yellow tablet below our red friends.
  8. Turning to the child, encourage them with, "Your turn! Can you find its match?"
  9. Help them if needed, and then let's pair the yellows together just like we did with the reds.
  10. Finally, introduce the calming blue by placing one tablet below the yellow pair.
